Murrumbidgee Council to take over riverside caravan park

Murrumbidgee Council has taken over management of the Darlington Point Riverside Caravan Park, a popular destination nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.

The change marks a new chapter in the park’s development, which was previously operated by lessees.

Council’s General Manager, John Scarce said the change in management aligns with Council’s long-term vision for the park.

“Darlington Point Riverside Caravan Park is one of our region’s tourism jewels, and we are committed to enhancing the visitor experience,” Mr Scarce said.

Jessie Burns has been appointed as the park’s new caretaker. The Council said Mr Burns brings a strong background in outdoor work, having spent the last six years running her own gardening business.

“I love keeping busy and meeting new people. Every day here is different, and it’s a beautiful location to work in,” Ms Burns said.

The park is in the process of rebuilding following significant flood damage in 2022, with Council working steadily to restore and improve facilities. Five new flood-resilient cabins are due to arrive in the coming weeks, forming part of a broader plan to revitalise the site.

“In 2021, we developed a masterplan for the park that outlines a bold and exciting future. We’re currently seeking $10 million in funding to transform the park into a premier riverside tourist destination,” Mr Scarce said.

“Our vision includes high-quality, flood-resilient infrastructure that offers a safe and memorable experience for visitors while showcasing the natural beauty of the Murrumbidgee River.”
