WA’s Shire of Murray Council is celebrating the completion of three major projects in Pinjarra with funding assistance from mining giant, Alcoa, Community Bank Pinjarra and the WA Government.
Acting Shire President, Douglas McLarty said new Murray River Foreshore lighting, an upgraded CCTV network, and new lighting at Sir Ross McLarty Oval support the Shire’s focus area of ‘People’, which aims to ensure the community enjoys excellent health, wellbeing and quality of life.
“The new foreshore lighting helps showcase the Murray River Foreshore area. Activating the Pinjarra Suspension Bridge and surrounding riverbanks and foreshore trees,” said Cr McLarty.
“It has already been used for multiple fantastic events, bringing hundreds of people to enjoy the area.”
He said $200,000 worth of LED lighting at the Sir Ross McLarty Sports Precinct had created better sporting experiences with lighting that meets sporting standards, is energy efficient and needs less maintenance supporting local sporting teams.
“The CCTV network expansion allowed cameras to include automatic numberplate recognition equipment, which relays information directly to local police. This has enhanced the already strong partnership between the local police and the Shire to support the safety and wellbeing of the community,” said Cr McLarty.
“We are proud to be delivering projects that support our community and continue to support our plan for the future.”
Alcoa Pinjarra Refinery Manager, Mark Hodgson said the projects were supported through a current five-year partnership with the Council, during which more than $1.6 million will be invested into a range of community infrastructure projects.
“We have been proud partners with the Shire for almost two decades, contributing to significant infrastructure developments that improve quality of life, spur economic growth, and strengthen community ties,” said Mr Hodgson.
