Murray River Council has sought approval from Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) to operate COVID-19 vaccination hubs at council’s open spaces.
Council said it wants residents to have even more opportunities to protect themselves from COVID-19, by offering more vaccination locations.
Murray River Council CEO, Terry Dodds said additional sites would increase the capacity for residents to get vaccinated.
“Council is committed to increasing opportunities for all of our community to get vaccinated, so we will be working with private providers to help us get this happening.”
“We have the space allocated. We even have traffic control plans ready. We want to support our private providers to expand their vaccination programs so that we can continue on the path of getting the majority of our population vaccinated,” he said.
Recent data from MLHD shows that the Murray River Council local government area has the highest rates of single and double vaccinated people in the Riverina, with single vaccinated rates at 79% and double vaccinated at 50%.
“This is a huge effort by our residents right across the council area and we want to thank the entire community for joining the fight against COVID,” Mr Dodds said.
Mr Dodds said Council was looking at options to get private visiting vaccination services into Moama, Wakool, Moulamein, Murray Downs and Tooleybuc.
“It’s the achievement of the vaccination target numbers across the whole area that will ultimately free up the way we can move around and get back to everyday life; so it’s important that we make things as easy as possible for communities to get the jab in their arms,” he said.
