City of Monash Council has announced it will light up the Monash Civic Centre in the trans pride colours of pink, light blue and white tonight in support of Trans Day of Visibility.
Today, 31 March, is Trans Day of Visibility, an annual international celebration of trans pride and awareness, recognising trans and gender diverse experiences and achievements.
“In a show of recognition and support for trans and gender diverse members of the Monash community and the valuable contributions they make to the City of Monash, Council is lighting up the Monash Civic Centre tonight in the three colours of pink, light blue and white,” Council said in a statement.
“Monash is proud to be home to a diverse community where all people are afforded the same dignity, so that they can lead healthy, happy and connected lives.”
The Council recently endorsed its first LGBTIQA+ Action Plan, which builds on a commitment to LGBTIQA+ inclusion and provides a framework and actions to better understand and respond to the experiences and priorities of LGBTIQA+ communities in Monash.
The Plan was developed in close collaboration with Council’s LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee, with input from the community through consultation.
