Victoria’s City of Melbourne Council has celebrated the opening of female-friendly change rooms at Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve in Rockbank.
It is the latest pavilion in the City to be upgraded with female-friendly change rooms in a project jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government.
City of Melton Mayor, Goran Kesic said it was Council’s objective to achieve gender equitable, proud, safe and all-inclusive community facilities across the local government area.
“By upgrading the aged and outdated football change rooms at Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve to a female friendly standard, we’re creating an inclusive facility that encourages female participation, connection and a sense of belonging,” Mayor Kesic said.
“This upgraded facility particularly benefits local clubs like our reigning Under 13 premiers, the Western Rams Junior Football Club.
“I’m proud that Council is working to ensure every single member of our community feels welcome, safe and secure.
“We will continue to work towards building other all-inclusive community facilities and creating infrastructure that is well planned, equitable and meets the demands of our growing region.
“I look forward to seeing the participation rates of women and girls in sport continue to grow and thrive as a result of investment in local facilities like this.”
The State Government contributed $150,000 through Sport and Recreation Victoria to make the pavilion fit for purpose and all-inclusive, with Council investing $200,000 in the project.
