The NSW Hunter region village of Cassilis is set to benefit from a $11.2 million funding boost, with a NSW Government commitment to build a sewage treatment plant and construct a footbridge across the local Munmurra River.
The Government last week notified the Upper Hunter Shire Council that its applications to the Legacy Infrastructure Fund had been successful.
The NSW Government has committed $45 million for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Legacy Infrastructure Fund, to provide funding for infrastructure projects that will deliver long-term and legacy benefits for local communities within the Central-West Orana REZ.
Key projects confirmed for Cassilis include:
Cassilis Sewage Treatment Plant
$9.8 million to construct a Sewage Treatment Plant and reticulation system to service properties within the village of Cassilis. The project will have a range of environmental and public health benefits for the local community.
Cassilis Footbridge, Pathways and Landscaping
$1.4 million to construct a footbridge across the Munmurra River with additional pathways and landscaping to be integrated. The project will improve connectivity and accessibility and ensure pedestrians can safely access the recreation grounds from the village.
Mayor, Maurice Collison (pictured) welcomed the funding, saying it was a transformative opportunity for Cassilis.
“This funding is a game-changer for Cassilis. These projects will not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also attract visitors and boost the local economy. We’re excited to get started and deliver these upgrades for our community,” Mayor Collison said.
The funding announcement follows extensive community consultations to ensure that the projects align with the needs and priorities of Cassilis residents, the Mayor said.
“Council will work closely with the community throughout the planning and delivery phases to maximise the benefits of the projects,” heh said.
