Man charged with 14 graffiti offences in Griffith

A man has been charged with 14 graffiti-related offences relating to attacks on a number of businesses and public infrastructure in Griffith.

In a statement, NSW Police said that between 10.30pm on Monday 14 April and 2.10am on Tuesday 15 April, a number of buildings along Banna Avenue, Railway Street and Jondaryan Avenue, including the exterior wall of the Griffith War Memorial Museum building, were graffitied or damaged.

Police will also allege a vehicle parked in a carpark on Jondaryan Avenue, and a shop front on Yambil Street, Griffith, were damaged.

Murrumbidgee Police District officers later patrolling Banna Avenue located a 30-year-old man.

“Police searched the man allegedly seizing a small amount of cannabis and a spray paint can. He was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station,” Police said.

He was charged with 19 offences – 14 counts of intentionally mark premises etc without prescribed consent, two counts of destroy or damage property, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic), possess graffiti implement with intent and possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court on 24 April.
