Major Wanneroo developments get green light

Two major community redevelopments are a step closer to being shovel ready, following key appointments made for architectural and cost planning services, City of Wanneroo Council has announced.

Council has green lit the Wanneroo Sports Hub – which will form part of the Wanneroo Recreation Precinct – and the Girrawheen Hub Precinct to progress to detailed design.

Both form part of the City’s ‘Putting Community First’ campaign, which aims to secure government support to deliver vital community infrastructure for the region’s growing population.

Mayor, Linda Aitken said it was an exciting milestone in delivering accessible, modern and inviting community facilities for Girrawheen and Wanneroo residents but there was still work to be done.

“It’s important all tiers of government work together to deliver much-needed facilities like the Girrawheen Hub and Wanneroo Sports Hub for the future of our community,” she said.

“Redeveloping these precincts will give our community a welcoming and convenient place to come together and connect, and access City services closer to home.

“The community feedback so far has showed a clear desire for improved community facilities in these areas, and I look forward to seeing detailed designs being developed.”

Mayor Aitken said consultation and engagement would be a key element of the detailed design stage, particularly with existing users and local community groups using the current spaces.

“Ongoing consultation will continue to play a crucial role in shaping the redevelopments, ensuring we design fit-for-purpose facilities that will benefit locals for years to come,” she said.

The Council has previously received a $5 million funding commitment from the State Government to enable to delivery of the Wanneroo Recreation Centre redevelopment.

It is seeking an additional $43.2 million from the State and Federal Government to support construction of the facilities, with the City set to contribute a combined $17.3 million to fast-track both projects.

Caribiner Architects will progress the Girrawheen Hub Precinct through to construction, while Hodge Collard Preston Architects will champion the Wanneroo Sports Hub detailed design alongside Rider Levett Bucknall to carry out cost planning services.
