Maitland City Council has announced four $1,000 scholarships to help local men to pursue their goals as part of this year’s International Men’s Day celebrations.
Councillor, Sally Halliday says the scholarships recognise the achievements and potential of local men while providing practical support to help them pursue their goals.
“As a mother of two sons, I know how important it is to support the men and boys in our community and recognise the important contribution they make to our families, workplaces and communities,” she said.
“International Men’s Day allows us to celebrate those contributions, while also creating space for positive conversations about men’s wellbeing and the challenges they may face.
“These scholarships are about investing in local men and giving them a helping hand. Whether it’s developing a new skill, pursuing a creative passion, growing a business, improving their health and wellbeing or contributing to the community, we want to help turn their ambitions into action.
“If there’s something you’ve been wanting to pursue, I encourage you to apply. Whether you’re following a passion or working towards a bigger goal, a $1,000 scholarship could help make it possible.”
The Council will partner with Joblink Plus to deliver an International Men’s Day event at Maitland Town Hall on Thursday 19 November. The free event will bring together local support services, community organisations and groups, with activities and guest speakers providing opportunities to connect, learn and access support.
“This annual event is an opportunity to bring our community together and have open conversations about the issues that matter to men and boys,” Cr Halliday said.
“We’re also looking forward to recognising the scholarship recipients at the International Men’s Day event and hearing more about what they hope to achieve with the support.”
The scholarships are part of Council’s broader commitment to supporting local people to pursue their goals, alongside Council’s International Women’s Day scholarships, which will continue to be offered in March 2027.
Mayor, Philip Penfold, will announce the four scholarship recipients at the International Men’s Day event on 19 November.
Applications are now open to men aged 16 and over living in the Maitland local government area.
