A Logan City Council staff member is in the running for this year’s Queensland Trainee of the Year Award.
Ashleigh Tomlinson (pictured) recently won the South East region Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year category in the 2021 Queensland Training Awards and will vie for the state award on October 8.
Ashleigh, a fitness leader at the three gyms operated by inSports Logan Health and Fitness, is passionate about the fitness industry.
She completed her Certificate III in Sport and Recreation six months ahead of schedule, so then challenged herself to also complete a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance during her two-year traineeship.
“It was a great environment to work in as a trainee,” Ashleigh said.
“I was able to discover what I’m really interested in, and I was supported all the way.”
With her traineeship now complete, Ashleigh’s ongoing role at the inSports gyms helps City of Logan residents reach their health and fitness goals.
Governance Chair, Councillor Natalie Willcocks, said Council’s traineeship and apprenticeship program offered opportunities for young people to kick start their careers in a range of fields.
“We have trainees right across the organisation, from business administration to marketing and events and sport and recreation,” Cr Willcocks said.
“Our trainees and apprentices gain nationally-recognised qualifications while also getting experience in a workplace, which sets them up for some great opportunities down the track.
“I commend Ashleigh’s determination to finish two certificate courses during her traineeship, and I am thrilled to see her continue working here at Council to promote an active and healthy community.”
