Lithgow scrap metal business fined

A local Lithgow scrap metal business has been found guilty and fined for failing to comply with a Clean-up Notice issued by Lithgow City Council.

The matter was heard by Lithgow Local Court (pictured), where the company was found guilty of the offence and fined $5,000 with $750 in Court costs.

“Unfortunately, despite working with this business to try and ensure pollutants do not enter the environment they were not able to comply with their responsibilities and were found guilty and fined for their non-compliance,” said Council’s General Manager, Craig Butler.

“Council takes environmental breaches very seriously, because we have a wonderful environment. If any businesses or member of the community are unsure of their obligations under environmental legislation, they can contact Council’s environmental health officers who are always available to provide guidance,” he said.
