Launceston residents to be kept in the waste app loop

Launceston residents can now access waste and recycling information via the LoopedIn Councils app, a free, user-friendly tool designed to simplify Council services for users.

The app supplies data for more than 50 councils across Australia, with Launceston’s waste and recycling services launching within the app this week.

From July, the app will also allow residents to access their free Launceston Waste Centre entry vouchers.

Key features of the LoopedIn Councils app include:

  • A personalised waste collection calendar tailored to your exact address;
  • Push notification reminders for kerbside rubbish, recycling or green waste collection days;
  • Timely alerts about any changes or delays to scheduled collections due to breakdowns, public holidays, weather events or other disruptions;
  • Comprehensive guides on what items can and cannot go into each kerbside bin, reducing contamination and improving recycling outcomes;
  • Locations and opening hours of local waste and recycling centres, transfer stations and other disposal facilities;
  • An easy-to-use A–Z search tool for correct disposal of household items.

Mayor, Matthew Garwood said the app was an easy way for residents to keep on top of Council services.

“A lot of people have a smart phone in their pocket these days, and we’ve already seen how well tools like Snap, Send, Solve are used to flag issues,” he said.

“LoopedIn just makes the everyday stuff easier by giving you clear info on bin nights, what goes where, and real time updates if something changes. It’s simple and it works.

“It also takes away those ‘is it this bin or that bin’ conversations, or copying the neighbour’s bins and hoping they’ve got it right. If we can make recycling clearer and keep people in the loop when there’s a delay, we reduce contamination and run a better service. That’s what this is about.”

Launceston residents who download and activate the app between today and Wednesday, 13 May, will also go into a draw to win some great prizes, including an iPad, a Jetboil camp stove and vouchers for local Launnie shops including Eumarrah, Gourlays Sweet Shop, and Penny Royal Adventures.
