Ku-ring-gai Council has voted to advance two important local housing supply initiatives.
Last night, the Council voted to support a Mayoral Minute by Ku-ring-gai Mayor Christine Kay in relation to Council’s planning for Transport Oriented Development (TOD) precincts from Roseville to Gordon.
This Minute recommended Council call an Extraordinary Meeting for Monday 31 March at 7pm to consider community feedback on the alternate housing scenarios and a preferred scenario for public exhibition.
A public forum will be held before the Council meeting on 31 March to allow community members to address the Council report which will be publicly released by 25 March.
The second Council decision taken overnight was to support a minimum lot size of 1,015 sq/m for dual occupancy developments on land zoned for ‘low density residential’ purposes.
“This decision was made after Council considered feedback gathered during the exhibition of two minimum lot size options between January and February,” Council said in a statement.
“While both options deliver the same level of housing community feedback was clearly in favour of the 1,015 sq/m lot size, in part because it had less environmental and streetscape impacts.Â
“This 1,015 sq/m minimum lot size is proposed to apply by mid-2025 to, eligible land located more than 800m from Ku-ring-gai’s railway stations (excluding Warrawee) and St Ives Local Centre.”
Council’s resolution is subject to NSW Government endorsement. The introduction of the minimum lot size and will be accompanied by detailed planning controls, which are still to be developed, it said.
Speaking after the meeting, Mayor Kay said that the Council decisions “show we are continuing to take action to deliver new housing supply, but doing this in a way which considers community feedback and responds to our unique local area”.
