Ku-ring-gai Council and the local government area’s Chamber of Commerce have signed an agreement to work together to stimulate local economic growth and assist small and medium local businesses.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was endorsed at the Council’s February 2025 meeting on Friday.
Under the MoU, Ku-ring-gai Council and the Ku-ring-gai Chamber of Commerce agree to work together to:
- Collaborate on economic opportunities and strategies aligned with Council’s Community Strategic Plan;
- Provide support and expertise to each other, leveraging knowledge and networking as appropriate;
- Collaborate when planning economic development projects, processes and related strategic matters;
- Recognise the Chamber as a key point of contact for community business representation’
- Where appropriate jointly seek, promote and advocate for projects and other funding; and
- Provide assistance to raise the Chamber’s profile.
Under the MoU, the Council and Chamber will hold an annual strategy meeting as well as quarterly operational meetings.
The Chamber has also committed to engage the business community in Council consultations and assist with educational and promotional activities.
Mayor, Christine Kay said she was delighted that the MoU had been signed, and in doing so helped defined the basis of an ongoing collaborative relationship with the Chamber of Commerce.
“Council and the Chamber share a fundamental goal of fostering a thriving local business community and a strong local economy,” Mayor Kay said.
“Given our joint activities and shared goals, establishing a formal agreement is a logical step forward.”
Chamber President, Adrienne McLean said the agreement acknowledged the Chamber’s dedicated efforts and reflected both parties’ enthusiasm for growth, professionalism, and strong commitment to the local business sector.
“This Memorandum of Understanding marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Ku-ring-gai business community. With greater support, stronger connections and a shared focus on local businesses, there is immense potential to enhance this vital sector,” Ms McLean said.
“By working together we can achieve even more and this aligned approach will bring lasting benefits to all”.
Since 2009, the Ku-ring-gai Chamber of Commerce has played a vital role in supporting local small businesses through networking opportunities and providing advocacy within the Ku-ring-gai area.
