Kiama Municipal Council has congratulated and welcomed its new councillors following the state’s recent local government elections.
“On behalf of all of the staff of Kiama Municipal Council and Blue Haven, we welcome and say congratulations to the newly elected Councillors,” Council said in a statement.
“The makeup of our next Kiama Council has been confirmed following the counting of preferential votes.”
The newly elected Councillor team will consist of the following:
- Matt Brown (returning)
- Mike Cains (new)
- Imogen Draisma (returning)
- Stuart Larkins (returning)
- Melinda Lawton (new)
- Melissa Matters (new)
- Cameron McDonald (new)
- Yasmin Tatrai (new)
- Erica Warren (new)
Results were confirmed at 2.51pm this afternoon. There is now a 24 hour window for anyone to object and demand a recount.
“Our successful candidates will officially become councillors when they are sworn in by the CEO at the first ordinary meeting of Council scheduled to be held on Tuesday 8 October,” Council said.
“At that first meeting the new Councillors will also vote for a Mayor and Deputy Mayor, as well as establish a meeting schedule.”
The result of the constitutional referendum on whether to change to the direct (popular) election of the Mayor by the voters of the Kiama Municipality was a ‘No’ (54.67%).
“I offer my sincere congratulations to all the elected Councillors and thank everyone who ran in the local elections. I look forward to working alongside you all throughout the next term of Council,” said Council CEO, Jane Stroud.
