Kiama has won the NSW Tourism Association’s Top Town Award for the third year in a row, earning the NSW South Coast town a prestigious spot in the Awards’ Hall of Fame.
Kiama prevailed against a strong field, including a concerted campaign from Wollongong and impressive nominations from Shellharbour, Orange, Moree, Forbes, Coffs Harbour and Ballina in the category for a town with a population over 5000.
The award was announced at the Local Government NSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference in Maitland.
“This is a rare honour and it is an incredible achievement for Kiama,” said Mayor, Cameron McDonald.
“We pride ourselves on being a go-to destination for visitors whether they are coming to our town for a day trip, a weekend away or an extended stay.
“Kiama not only has plenty of places to visit but a special community where everybody is welcome whether you’re a local or from out of town.”

Council’s Tourism, Economic Advisory Committee chair, Councillor Matt Brown said the visitor economy was essential to Kiama’s long-term future.
“Council’s Tourism & Economic Development team has worked tirelessly to continue to enhance our status as a premier tourist destination,” he said.
“This award is dedicated to their magnificent efforts.
“Tourism is such an important part of Kiama and our surrounding villages so it’s incredibly humbling to receive this award three years in a row and to be elevated into the Hall of Fame.”

Alongside iconic attractions such as the Kiama Blowhole, the Mayor said tourists return year after year for a chance to recharge and revel in everything the region has to offer.
Kiama’s Visitor Economy Strategy 2035 is currently on public exhibition, outlining a direction for the future of tourism and reinforcing Council’s focus on a sustainable and high-quality visitor economy.
