Kiama Council is investigating the illegal dumping of asbestos and other building material next to the Princes Highway near the Minnamurra Bridge.
The asbestos and other material has been dumped in a cutting on the northbound side of the road, out of sight of passing traffic, Council said in a statement.
“Our compliance officers have cordoned off the dump and watered down the asbestos until it can be removed by licenced contractors.”
“Council warns motorists and cyclist using the Princes Highway to avoid stopping at the cutting. Â
“Illegal dumping attracts penalties starting at $1,000 ranging to $50,000 for individuals.”
