Kempsey makes switch to LED

Kempsey Shire Council has announced it will switch 1,421 streetlights to LED as part of its Sustainability and Resilience Strategy.

Council says the switch to LED technology will translate to a reduction of 486 megawatt hours and savings of approximately $157,0000 each year.

Additionally, Council’s $1,073,000 contribution to the upgrade costs will be recovered in around six years, it said.

“This means that the streetlights will require less maintenance by Essential Energy, who will also be able to respond to outages more swiftly,” Council said.

The upgrade to energy efficient lighting is part of Council’s Sustainability and Resilience Strategy commitment to manage and enhance natural and urban environments to become more resilient to the likely impacts of climate change.

Essential Energy will begin upgrading streetlights from Monday 21 November.
