Interim GM appointed to Circular Head Council

Tasmania’s Circular Head Council has announced the temporary appointment of Andrew Wardlaw from River Road Consulting as Acting General Manager, effective from 18 March 2025 until a permanent appointment is finalised.

The Council says Mr Wardlaw has three decades of experience in local government and management consulting. He previously served as General Manager of Burnie City Council from 2012 to 2020 and has also held General Manager roles at both King Island Council and West Coast Council.

In August 2023, he was appointed Commissioner for Dorset Council – a role appointed by the Governor of Tasmania.

“Andrew’s vast experience and proven leadership make him the ideal choice to guide Council through this interim phase. His appointment underscores our shared commitment to ensuring continuity and excellence in service during this transition,” said Mayor, Gerard Blizzard.

Mr Wardlaw said he appreciated the opportunity to step into the role of Acting General Manager during the transition period.

“My focus will be on maintaining stability, supporting the team, and ensuring that Circular Head continues to deliver strong outcomes for the community,” he said.

Mayor Blizzard also thanked departing General Manager, Vanessa Adams, who is heading to a new role at Waratah-Wynyard Council.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to Vanessa Adams for her dedicated service. We wish her every success,” he said.

“Council’s leadership is confident that Andrew’s wealth of experience and proven track record in both public service and management consulting will provide the strategic oversight and stability needed during this temporary phase.”
