Inner West to host Uluru Statement forum tonight

Australia’s new Minister for Indigenous Australians, Linda Burney, is set to address an Uluru Statement forum From The Heart Summit at Marrickville Town Hall tonight.

The Minister will be joined on stage by Campaign Director for The From the Heart Campaign, Dean Parkin; Cheree Toka, who has led the campaign to fly the Aboriginal Flag over the Harbour Bridge, and Inner West Mayor, Darcy Byrne, who will host the forum.

Council says the forum has attracted huge interest, with hundreds of tickets snapped up within hours of being released.

To accommodate the number of people who want to be involved, a live stream of the event has been organised online and on a big screen at the nearby Marrickville Library.

At the forum, participants can find out how they can get involved in the upcoming referendum campaign, to enshrine a Voice to Parliament for First Nations people into the Australian Constitution.

“The Uluru Statement is an incredibly generous invitation to the Australian people to walk together with First Nations people and the journey begins in Marrickville with a packed out Town Hall on Thursday night,” said Minister Burney.

Mayor Byrne said, “With the election of the Albanese Labor Government we now have an historic opportunity to deliver the Uluru Statement in full.”

“The Inner West community has an obligation to help build the yes campaign in the upcoming referendum. It’s time for Voice, Treaty and Truth,” he said.

Uluru Statement from the Heart Forum will begin at 6.30pm, tonight, June 16, at Marrickville Town Hall. Watch on Facebook here.
