Hornsby Shire Council General Manager resigns

Hornsby Shire Council has formally accepted the resignation of General Manager, Steven Head, who has made the decision to step down from his role for personal reasons.

In a statement, the Council said Mr Head (pictured) has served as General Manager since 2018, bringing a wealth of experience from senior roles in metropolitan Sydney councils and the NSW Government.

Under his leadership, the Council delivered key milestones including the Hornsby Town Centre Masterplan and a substantial uplift in capital works, notably the Hornsby Park project. He also guided the development of strategic frameworks such as Your Vision Your Future, the Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS), and the Local Environmental Plan (LEP) review.

“Steven Head has been a dedicated and thoughtful leader, helping to strengthen Hornsby Shire’s reputation for sound financial management and delivering projects that have enriched our community. We are grateful for his service and wish him all the very best in the next chapter of his journey,” said Mayor, Warren Waddell.

Mr Head’s tenure also saw the introduction of an organisational leadership program, the adoption of a Special Rate Variation, and improvements to Council’s customer service and technology systems.

He was also a Board Member of Statewide Mutual, Council’s insurer and was a leading figure in the local government waste management sector, the Council said.

Council has resolved to appoint Director Corporate Support, Glen Magus, as Acting General Manager.

“Council extends its thanks to Steven Head for his years of leadership and commitment to the Shire. We respect his privacy and wish him well for the future.”
