Road users in Altona will have access to a safer and more accessible crossing, with a new bridge at the old ford on Altona and Racecourse Road now open.
After six months of upgrade works, Hobsons Bay Council’s capital works program has delivered a new elevated crossing at Altona and Racecourse Road, reducing flood risk and making it more reliable for people driving, walking and riding.
The new crossing replaces the old low-lying ford, which was prone to flooding and closures.
“This is a great improvement for our community and will make it much easier for people to move all year-round,” said Mayor, Daria Kellander.
“We’re proud to have completed this project in a timely manner to ensure community safety and accessibility.”
Williamstown North Ward Councillor, Michael Disbury said community support had been important to help deliver the crucial piece of
infrastructure.
“This bridge will benefit all users for many years to come,” he said.
