Hinchinbrook adopts two-year biosecurity program

Hinchinbrook Shire Council has adopted a two-year prevention and control program for invasive biosecurity matter in the region.

Council says the purpose of the program is to prevent the entry, establishment and spread of invasive biosecurity matter and further manage and reduce any matter that poses a significant biosecurity risk throughout the Shire.

“Adoption of this Program allows Council officers to enter certain lands within the Shire and provides powers for authorised officers to monitor, advise and direct landholders’ response to biosecurity risks,” the Council said in a statement.

“This assists Council to ensure that people who deal with invasive biosecurity matter or a carrier are meeting their obligations as identified in the Hinchinbrook Local Government Area Biosecurity Plan.”

The Prevention and Control Program 2022-2024 will commence on Friday 30 September 2022 and will continue through to Sunday 29 September 2024.
