Hawkesbury City Council staff and contractors are working with the NSW Environment Protection Agency (EPA) to determine the environmental impact of a sewage spill into South Creek and the Hawkesbury River at Windsor, and to limit its effects.
“Daily testing of water will take place for at least the next six weeks. Council will take the appropriate action based on the results of this testing,” Council said in a statement.
“The damaged pump station has been isolated and there is no further risk of a spill. Work will begin shortly to repair the station.”
Swimming and fishing are currently prohibited between South Creek at the Windsor Boat Ramp and Windsor Beach at Macquarie Park. Signage has been erected at Macquarie Park and Governor Phillip Park to advise river users, Council said.
