City of Moreton Bay Council’s plan to create future jobs within the Narangba Innovation Precinct has been given the green light by the State Government to proceed to public consultation.
Council’s proposed Narangba Innovation Precinct Planning Scheme Amendment aims to create 600 new Special Industries jobs within a designated area of the existing precinct, while also implementing health and safety protections such as increased air quality controls.
The Council has proposed a 12-month continuation of the current TLPI for the Minister’s review, to allow it to work towards the associated Planning Scheme Amendment.
Mayor, Peter Flannery said the proposed TLPI would mirror the same conditions currently in place under the existing TLPI, which is set to expire on 26 July.
“We are pleased that the State Government supports Council seeking feedback on our proposed plan to create hundreds of new specialised jobs and benefit our City’s growing population by activating industrial land uses at the established Narangba Innovation Precinct,” he said.
“It’s important that our residents have opportunities to work close to home for lifestyle and affordability factors, while adding a further $129 million to our local economy and improving investor confidence locally.
“We completed extensive environmental health studies between 2020 and 2024 to inform the viability of these proposed changes.
“If approved, these changes will strike a better balance between safeguarding the community and supporting critical growth and investment in the Narangba Innovation Precinct, including for special industry uses.”
Council officers will now prepare a report outlining the next steps through the statutory Planning Scheme Amendment process to adoption.
This will include an opportunity for residents to have their say during a statutory consultation period, pending Council’s approval of the report.
