Goulburn trio recognised for service

Goulburn Mulwaree Council last night recognised the service of Councillors Alfie Walker, Denzil Sturgiss and Sam Rowland.

The three Councillors, who are not standing for re-election at the 4 December poll, were formally recognised for their community service and presented with plaques as a keepsake by General Manager, Warwick Bennett.

“Alfie, Denzil and Sam have been wonderful advocates for our region, giving up countless hours in community service, and I would like to thank them on behalf of Goulburn Mulwaree Council” said Mr Bennett.

“The role of a Councillor can be a thankless task at times, and you must listen to the views of wide ranging community members before making difficult decisions. These three have acted with integrity and intelligence during their service, and I wish them all the best in the future.”

Cr Denzil Sturgiss was first elected to Mulwaree Shire Council in 1999 and re-elected to Greater Argyle Council, later to become Goulburn Mulwaree Council in 2004. He was re-elected in 2008, 2012 and again in 2016. He served as a Councillor in this region for twenty two years.

Cr Sam Rowland was first elected to Goulburn Mulwaree Council in 2012 and was re-elected again in 2016. He served as a councillor for Goulburn Mulwaree for nine years.

Dr Alfie Walker was first elected to Goulburn Mulwaree council in 2012 and was re-elected in 2017. He served as Deputy Mayor from 2016 to 2018 and as a councillor for nine years.
