Goulburn to trial free vape recycling

Goulburn Mulwaree Council has launched a free trial recycling service for vapes and soft plastics at the Goulburn Waste Management Centre.

The initiative provides residents with a safe and sustainable way to dispose of these materials at no cost. If the trial, which will run until 30 June next year, is successful, Council says it hopes to make the service permanent.

Soft plastics – such as plastic bags, wraps, and packaging – can now be recycled through Council’s partnership with RecycleSmart. Items not accepted include biodegradable or compostable plastics, straws, and rigid plastic containers such as ice cream tubs, yoghurt pots, takeaway containers, and shampoo bottles, as well as laminated materials.

“Vapes must never be placed in household or workplace bins, as they pose a fire risk. Residents can now safely recycle vapes at the Waste Management Centre through this specialised program,” Council said in a statement.
