Georges River Council has officially marked the start of construction of the Donnelly Park Foreshore Protection and Environmental Enhancement with a sod-turning ceremony.
The Council says the ceremony signals an exciting step forward in the delivery of a Georges River Foreshore Access and Improvement Plan priority project. The project focuses on improving the environmental resilience and accessibility to the foreshore.
A total of $2.4 million has been allocated to the works, which have been made possible with the support of the NSW Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
“The funding from DCCEEW has been instrumental in driving our shared commitment to protecting and enhancing our natural environment for future generations,” said Mayor, Elise Borg.
“We are not only protecting the environment but also creating a more accessible and enjoyable space for the community to connect with nature.
“This is a fantastic win for both residents and visitors, especially for those who love water activities including sailing—it’s a game-changer for enjoying our beautiful waterways,” she said.
With a preliminary design created in 2024, work is now set to begin.
