Geelong lights up for AFL final

The City of Greater Geelong Council has lit up its City Hall in blue and white to celebrate the Geelong Cats making the AFL Grand Final.

As part of the build-up for the premiership decider, a special ‘Go Cats’ projection will light up the building’s front façade tonight and on Friday night.

“The Cats have brought our community such enjoyment this season with their performances and a premiership would be fitting reward,” said Deputy Mayor, Trent Sullivan.

“We encourage all Cats fans, no matter where they live, to show their colours by decorating their houses or shopfronts in blue and white and showing their support on social media.

“We send our congratulations and best wishes to coach Chris Scott, all the players, their families and support staff. It takes a massive team effort to make it all the way to the big dance.”

Blue and white lights will also be on show at various points along the Geelong Waterfront and at the Customs House water feature, he said.

Council Sport Chair, Councillor Ron Nelson said the only thing better than seeing the Cats make it to the Grand Final would be seeing Chris Scott and Joel Selwood holding up the cup on Saturday evening.

“When Geelong is doing well the town is happy. It’s an exciting week and it’s sure to be a great day next Saturday – and importantly too, a successful one for our local hospitality venues,” he said.

“Let’s all get behind the greatest team of all.”
