City of Gold Coast Council Mayor, Tom Tate, has finally secured a seat at the 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games Committee table – three years after the committee was first established.
Despite the Gold Coast being host to seven Games venues and with Mayor Tate’s previous experience in hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he was controversially left of the committee roster by former Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk back in 2021.
Now, a Queensland parliamentary committee has recommended his inclusion due to the “resources and partnership invested” by the Gold Coast in the Games.
“I note the recommendation of the committee, and I look forward to the formalisation by the parliament,” said Mayor Tate.
“As always, I’m here to help,” he said.
