Funding secured for stage 2 of Moyne market square

Victoria’s Moyne Shire Council has secured a further $800,000 in State Government funding to complete the second stage of upgrade works at Macarthur’s Market Square.

With stage one works almost complete, $500,000 has been secured from Emergency Recovery Victoria and $300,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria – combined with a further $300,000 from Council and community contributions. This is in addition to the $480,000 allocation from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program for Stage 1 works that are nearing completion.

Mayor, Karen Foster said stage two works would include a new playspace, a splashpad,
completion of the multi-court, a new barbeque shelter, street furniture and landscaping.

“This exciting project is transforming the precinct in the heart of the town,” Mayor Foster said.

“The masterplan for this space was completed with extensive community feedback in 2019 – that plan has informed everything that is happening at Market Square so it’s very exciting to see the project finally coming to fruition.

“This is one of the largest capital works projects undertaken in Macarthur, with $1.6 million being spent across both stages and enhance play and recreation for all ages and abilities in the town.”

Mayor Foster said the existing playground would not be removed until construction was ready to begin on the new play space.

“We have started the detailed design process for the next stage of works and are planning the next phase of construction,” she said.

“Contractors will be on site to start Stage 2 once final design plans are endorsed, with the full project to be completed by June 2024 – we will let the community know how the work will be staged once a contractor has been appointed.”

Stage 1 work is expected to be completed by the end of June. Work is now beginning on the final tranche of works which includes preparing for the installation of a new multi-court,
refurbishment of the existing rotunda, new footpaths and tree works.

Work already completed includes new parking areas, kerb and channeling, footpaths and
drainage works.
