Full speed ahead for Coffs Harbour touch football championships

Touch Football Australia’s National Youth Championships have hit the ground running in Coffs Harbour.

The premier mass-participation event had the sports precinct anchored by the C.ex Coffs International Stadium humming from the get-go today, with 125 teams striving for glory on the manicured fields.

“We’ve got over 6,000 people here – the accommodation providers are full, the restaurants are full and the weather is perfect,” said City of Coffs Harbour Mayor, Nikki Williams.

“This is an economic injection of more than $5 million which our small businesses are very grateful for.”

Touch Football Australia Chief Executive Officer, Marcus Ashcroft said he was delighted to see the DoorDash National Youth Championships return to Coffs for the second consecutive year.

He singled out the “significant support from the Mayor and the Council” to provide a first class venue for the competition.

“We’re proud to once again bring the DoorDash National Youth Championships (NYC) to Coffs Harbour, which has become the home for touch football and our flagship events,” Mr Ashcroft said.

“The NYC continues to grow year-on-year and provides young athletes from every corner of the country with the opportunity to showcase their talent on the national stage, while reinforcing our ongoing partnership with the Mid North Coast region.”

The event features eight boys and girls divisions from under 12s through to under 18s with all Australian States and Territories represented – making it the largest participation number in the competition’s history.

Last year, NYC saw a host of young stars selected to form the majority of the Athelite Australian Emus squads for the 2025 Asia Pacific Youth Touch Cup, underscoring the sport’s strong performance pathways.

Council Planning and Communities Acting Director, Ian Fitzgibbon said NYC was one of many major events which have cemented the City’s reputation as a premier regional venue.

“We have a great destination here which lends itself perfectly to sports tourism,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“As well as superb facilities we have the lifestyle and natural environment that so many seek. The visiting touch players will be curious to discover our magnificent coastline and lush hinterland. We are also well connected transport-wise so Coffs really has the total package.”

The 2025 DoorDash National Youth Championships are being held at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium and adjacent grounds from today through to Saturday, 1-4 October.

Entry is free and spectators are welcome. The tournament is being broadcast live and free on Kayo Sports in Australia, Sky Sport in New Zealand and Sky Sport Next in other global territories.
