Frankston walks away with second street tour win

Frankston City has become the first Australian city to win gold two years in a row for its guided street tour.

The popular Frankston City Street Art Tours were named 2022 Australian Street Art Awards’ Best Street Art Tour and have again been named as Australia’s top street tour this year.

The tour through Frankston streets and lanes includes dozens of murals by local, national and international artists.

The back-to-back consecutive wins confirm Frankston City’s Street Art Tours as one of the best public art experiences in the nation, said Frankston City Mayor, Nathan Conroy.

“Council has worked hard to make Frankston City a must-see place arts destination. Wins such as this one as well as our Bronze in the Top Tourism Town are the result of an innovative public arts and tourism plan,” the Mayor said.

He said Frankston City was also host to a number of popular venues, events and attractions such as the Frankston Arts Centre, McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery, The Waterfront Festival and Big Picture Festival.

“Our City is growing into a desirable hub of arts and culture for people of all ages and interest.”

The tours were developed by Council in 2018 to create a tangible experience around the City’s street art and to encourage both residents and visitors to explore and discover unexpected delights.

They are a highly-rated attraction on Tripadvisor with the well-researched tours mixing art
appreciation and historical research to showcase Frankston City as a trailblazer in the world
of street art.

Australian Street Art Awards Director Liz Rivers said: “Frankston City has well and truly cemented its reputation as an aspirational destination for anyone who enjoys visually stunning experiences.”

The judges commented that this year’s entries were of a very high calibre, with all nominees demonstrating determination and commitment to improving their community through the adoption of creative projects.

The No More Blank Walls Street Art Tour sponsored by the City of Stirling in Perth won the Silver Award.

Frankston City’s Street Art Walking Tours run for 90 minutes, cost $15 per person, include a hot beverage (on Saturday and Sunday tours), are family friendly and feature all abilities
access with small groups of less than 10 people and private tours available on request.
