Former Melbourne council director appointed economic growth Commissioner

Former City of Melbourne and City of Greater Dandenong Council director, Katrina McKenzie, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Economic Growth Victoria and Better Regulation Victoria.

Minister for Finance, Danny Pearson congratulated Ms McKenzie on her appointment, acknowledging her experience across the economic, regulatory and public sectors.

“I warmly congratulate Ms McKenzie on her appointment. She brings a wealth of experience to this important role,” said Mr Pearson.

“Our Economic Growth Statement is backing businesses to invest, expand and innovate, while slashing unnecessary red tape by halving the number of business regulators, and building the workforce industry needs.”

Ms McKenzie comes into the role with extensive experience in public sector leadership, regulatory operations, economic development and strategic planning, having worked across the local government sector and related industry bodies throughout her career.

Prior to this appointment, she held senior positions at the City of Greater Dandenong and City of Melbourne. Ms McKenzie was also a Board member of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council, the peak body for Victoria’s tourism industry, representing more than 1,000 businesses.

“I look forward to connecting with Government, industry and the community to realise the opportunities of the Economic Growth Statement for Victoria and enhance economic growth, productivity and investment in Victoria,” Ms McKenzie said.

The appointment of Ms McKenzie as Commissioner of Economic Growth Victoria and Better Regulation Victoria also complements the role of Investment Coordinator-General, which is an escalation point to ensure agencies, regulators and statutory authorities meet all required approvals deadlines for major projects of state significance, the Government said in a statement.
