Cairns Regional Council has expressed its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of former councillor, Jeff Pezzutti, following his recent passing.
Mayor, Terry James said Mr Pezzutti would be remembered by Council staff as “a fair minded person who never let politics get in the way of his beliefs”.
“A decent bloke who loved his community, he was in turn loved by his community,” said Mayor James.
“His practical advice and solutions abounded in the Council Chambers, he was well respected, and he had this unwavering passion for the people of Cairns.”
Mr Pezzutti served more than a quarter of a century in local government, firstly with Mulgrave Shire Council and later Cairns City, as a councillor and as Depuy Mayor.
After 29 years of service, he retired prior to the 2008 local government election, but remained very much involved the community and was closely associated with many local schools and sporting organisations, as well as patron of many sporting clubs.
“Jeff was a fine example of a dedicated community representative, and his commitment was recognised some time ago with the naming Jeff Pezzutti Park in Woree,” said Mayor James.
During his time as a councillor, Mr Pezzutti was a representative on the Regional Organisation of Councils, Capital Works; member on the Regional Community Forum; and the Wet Tropics Consultative Committee.
He also served on the Cairns Works, Cairns Water, Planning and Environment; and Sports, Arts, Culture and Community Services committees, as well as Deputy Chair of Cairns Counter Disaster Committee.
