Forbes turns red for charity

Forbes Shire Council is turning red next month to support Ronald McDonald House Charities Orange.

Council will be holding a charity High Tea on the shores of Lake Forbes at Lions Park on 25 March to raise funds for the much-needed charity.

“We cannot wait to paint the town red for Ronald McDonald House in March,” said Forbes Shire Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM.

“This amazing charity has helped so many Forbes residents in their time of need, we really must dig deep to help them this year,” she said.

“COVID really restricted the fundraising events of the charity last year, so we need to up the game this year if we can.”

Since the house opened, 75 families from Forbes have stayed at Ronald McDonald House Charities in Orange for a total of 298 nights – all free of charge. A range of support services are also provided to families including emergency meals, grocery items, complimentary toiletries and a gift bag of new toys, activities and books for the sick child in hospital.

“By turning the town red on March 25 this year we can ensure our local families can continue to receive support for life saving treatment at Orange Hospital without the financial burden of having to pay for accommodation,” says Mayor Miller.

“Last year a number of schools in the area were involved in ‘Wear Red Day’, but this year I am truly hoping businesses in Forbes will get on board as well by encouraging staff to wear red, or showcasing the colour red in their business or shop windows,” she said.

“We will have donation buckets throughout town for people to pop some money in. Town Hall will also be lit red for the week.

“Council is holding a charity High Tea at Lions Park on 25 March. Guests will be encouraged to wear a little red for the occasion in support for this great cause.

“Entertainment, guest speakers, a glass or two of sparkling and delicious selection of High Tea treats all at our beautiful setting in Lions Park. It will be a charity event like no other and I cannot wait!”

The High Tea will begin at 5.30pm with a number of guest speakers and include roving sparkling wine and mocktails. Tickets will go on sale 26 February via www.123Tix.com.
