Berrigan Shire Councillors have elected Councillor, Julia Cornwell McKean, as Mayor and re-elected Deputy Mayor, Carly Marriott, at an Extraordinary Meeting recently.
Mayor Cornwell McKean and Councillor Marriott will hold their positions for a 12-month period, until September 2024.
The incoming Mayor said she was honoured to be elected as the first Indigenous Mayor of Berrigan Shire.
“Thank you to my fellow Councillors for their continued support and I look forward to serving Berrigan Shire for the remainder of my term,” she said.
Mayor Cornwell McKean expressed appreciation and thanks to outgoing Mayor, Matthew Hannan for his seven years of service.
“Mayor Hannan has been at the helm, tackling the challenging years we’ve had with floods, COVID-19 and their flow on effects,” she said.
