The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is investigating a water pollution incident at Flat Rock Creek in Sydney’s Willoughy City Council municipality.
The Council says it has been distressed to see fish kills and pollution in the local creek.
“This is a much-loved local waterway, which plays an important environment and recreational role in our community,” Council said in a statement.
“We have been informed that EPA officers are onsite, undertaking investigations and collecting samples and that the pollution incident may be linked to firefighting efforts currently being undertaken at a nearby waste facility.”
Council has advised local residents to avoid touching any dead fish found in or near the creek, and to stay away from the water, until further notice.
