Entries open for Built Environment Awards

Submissions are now open for the 2022 Built Environment Awards, comprising the Marrickville Medal for Conservation and the Inner West Urban Photography Competition, Sydney’s Inner West Council has announced.

The Marrickville Medal for Conservation has been awarded annually since 1995 and was one of the first of its kind in NSW.

It celebrates built conservation works that contribute to the understanding and preservation of the Inner West’s rich cultural and architectural heritage.

The award is open to all building works, completed in the past three years, having positive conservation outcomes, including:

• Preservation
• Restoration
• Reconstruction
• Adaptation
• Interpretation

Works can be large or small, private or public, but the judges will be looking for thoughtful and innovative outcomes, Inner West Council said in a statement today.

The Inner West Urban Photography Competition is open to people of all ages and abilities and encourages people to engage with the Inner West Council urban landscape.

Inner West Urban Photography Competition images must in some way feature, reference or comment on heritage attributes of our built environment within the Inner West Council local government area.

Last year, extensive conservation works to iconic Victorian gothic mansion The Abbey in Annandale has won the 2021 Marrickville Medal.

The winner of the open category of the Urban Photography Awards was Andrew Miers for ‘Two lovely ladies’.

The Awards will be announced in September. For more information and to enter the Awards, go to innerwest.nsw.gov.au/BuiltEnvironmentAwards

Entries close Thursday 30 June.
