Elite future for Kellyville playing fields

The final step to reconfigure and construct new playing fields at Kellyville Memorial Park in north west Sydney is now complete – with play on these facilities set to commence in February 2022.

This project was part of The Hills Shire Council’s adopted masterplan for the site, which also included the addition of a 250 space carpark and a new access road from Stone Mason Drive, in Kellyville.

The fields were also expanded to accommodate four international standard rugby league fields, including lighting and irrigation. The final stage of the project was delivered by Western Earthmoving (WEM).

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Michelle Byrne said she was thrilled to see the fields complete and ready for use.

“I’m so proud that Council could provide an innovative solution to delivering more opportunities for play and recreation for our growing Hills community,” Mayor Byrne said.

“This is a great outcome – and just in time for Christmas.”

In addition to these works, Council also entered into a licence agreement with the Parramatta National Rugby League (PNRL) for the joint redevelopment and use of Kellyville Memorial Park as a Premier Rugby League Facility.

Mayor Byrne said this would allow residents further opportunities to play at an elite level.

“Our region is home to more than 1500 amateur footballers, and these recent upgrades, as well as the licence agreement with the PNRL, will provide these players with quality rugby league training and playing facilities in our Shire. It will also give them a pathway to play at some of the highest levels in rugby league,” she said.

“Council is committed to working with the PNRL on this very exciting project, which will bring investment and plenty of opportunities for elite rugby league in our region.”

PNRL CEO, Jim Sarantinos thanked Mayor Byrne and Council for their partnership on the project.

“The progress of the redevelopment site, and in particular the two new playing fields, is a wonderful start to our plans which includes building the largest community rugby league facility in Australia,” Mr Sarantinos said.
