Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) met last week to vote in Councillor Stephen Lawrence as Mayor for the remainder of the Council term, replacing Ben Shields who resigned from the role following his return from medical leave.
Councillor Anne Jones (OAM) was elected Deputy Mayor for the remainder of the Council term.
At Thursday’s Extraordinary Meeting, Council noted correspondence from the Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock, in relation to a proposed Performance Improvement Order (PIO) to address the performance and behaviour of the Council and councillors.
“Council determined to request an extension of one week to make a submission to the proposed Performance Improvement Order, to be submitted by Tuesday, 15 June 2021,” DRC said in a statement.
If the PIO is issued, councillors would be ordered to not publicly raise concerns about wrongdoing and ensure they use proper processes to make allegations of wrongdoing.
