DA lodged for new Glenorchy Sports Centre

The Tasmanian Government has lodged a development application (DA) for the much-anticipated Glenorchy Sports Centre to Glenorchy City Council.

Tasmanian Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan said the DA lodgement highlighted the importance of the facility for local athletes and sporting clubs as well as the Glenorchy and Greater Hobart communities.

“The Glenorchy Sports Centre is set to be a game-changer for our local sports scene, I look forward to seeing this vision become a reality,” Minister Duigan said.

“This development will introduce four much-needed indoor courts, significantly enhancing the sports infrastructure in the Greater Hobart area.

“It will provide world-class facilities that cater to athletes of all levels and abilities, fostering growth and excellence in sports.

“With the DA now lodged we are one step closer to delivering a centre that will serve as a vibrant hub for sport, recreation, and the local community.”

The proposed Glenorchy Sports Centre will feature indoor sporting facilities, including multi-purpose courts and modern amenities to support a wide range of indoor sports.

The Government is focused on ensuring the facility is delivered as soon as possible, with construction to begin as soon as approvals are received, said Mr Duigan.

“Our focus is on getting shovels in the ground and delivering a high-quality centre that will be enjoyed for generations to come,” he said.

The DA is expected to be advertised publicly by Glenorchy City Council in coming weeks.
