Council-run preschool records COVID case

Latrobe City Council today announced the temporary closure of a council-run preschool after a student tested positive to COVID-19.

“Council have been advised by a family of a student, who attends the Cameron Street Preschool in Traralgon, that they have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19),” Council said in a statement this moring.

The affected student last attended the preschool on Thursday 7 October. On that day the student attended the preschool for the entire day, Council said.

“Council would like to acknowledge the proactive response by the impacted family. This has allowed Council to act on the advice ahead of formal notification, ensuring the safety of our community.”

“We understand that this will be concerning for families whose children attend the kindergarten and to our staff.  Since being advised of the student’s attendance, management has contacted families and staff who accessed and worked at the preschool on Thursday 7 October who may be classed as close contacts.”

The preschool will be closed today for deep cleaning.

“We understand and acknowledge that this is a time of heightened anxiety for us all.  We are committed to ensuring families and staff, who access the Cameron Street Preschool, receive further information and updates as we receive them.  Families will be kept informed as to when the service will resume.”

“People who are identified as a Primary Close Contact linked to a potential exposure site will be contacted by the Department of Health and given the necessary advice and information. We encourage families and staff to remain vigilant – monitor for symptoms and get tested if symptoms present.”
