Waverley Council has appointed a head contractor to deliver the final detailed design and construction phases of the $32 million redevelopment of Bronte Surf Club.
The project will include a multipurpose building with new public amenities and lifeguard facilities, providing lifeguards with improved beach views for additional beach and surf safety.
Waverley Mayor, Will Nemesh said he was thrilled to announce the significant milestone that will “provide incredible facilities and community space which will become focal point and hub of activity at Bronte Beach”.
“The new Bronte Surf Club is a significant community asset that our residents and community can be proud of and enjoy for many decades to come,” said Mayor Nemesh.
“Inspired by the stunning Bronte Beach, this integrated facility consists of design improvements that give our lifeguards and lifesavers greater visibility of the beach and better equipment to keep residents and visitors safe.
“After so many years of preparation, I am proud and delighted that Council has finally given the green light to this project,” he said.
The new building and facilities will also feature an improved surrounding public domain including a forecourt and turning circle roadway. There will also be open space maintenance facilities for maintenance and cleansing services across Bronte Park and Beach.
The project progressed throughout 2024 with the DA approved and grant funding secured.
The Council says early site investigations and establishment of temporary site facilities will begin this month, with demolition and construction of the upgrade works to commence in the coming months.
Temporary site facilities will provide public amenities as well as accommodate Council Lifeguards, Council open space maintenance team, Bronte SLSC, and the Contractor to enable them to continue to deliver necessary services while early works and major construction are underway.
