Coffs council to consider move to monthly meetings

The City of Coffs Harbour Council is inviting the community to share its views on a proposed change to the Council’s meeting schedule – with consultation now open on a move to one Council meeting per month.

Currently, Ordinary Council meetings are held generally on the second and fourth Thursday of each month (February to December). Under the proposed change, the elected Council would meet generally once a month – scheduled for the fourth Thursday – while retaining the ability to call extraordinary meetings if needed.

The proposed change follows a report to Council in February to consider a change to monthly meetings for the second half of the year.

At the meeting, Council resolved to seek community input before finalising the meeting schedule for the remainder of 2025.

“Council is committed to transparency and meaningful community engagement,” Acting General Manager Andrew Beswick said.

“We want to hear from a broad cross-section of the community about how this change might impact them.”

In a statement, the Council says a monthly cycle will allow time between meetings for the City’s operations to focus on the provision of services to the community, including the implementation of Council’s decisions. This change will allow for improved efficiencies in business paper preparation and administrative processes. It is also consistent with most neighbouring councils and regional Councils of a similar size, it stated.

The consultation will close on 4 June 2025. Feedback will be presented to the elected Council in June to inform a final decision on the meeting schedule for the remainder of the year.
