The City of Rockingham has been selected as a finalist in two categories for the prestigious 2022 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.
Now in its 50th year, the WA Tourism Awards recognise organisations for their commitment to excellence in tourism and provide a platform to highlight these achievements.
The City has been selected as a finalist in the Excellence in Local Government Award for Tourism category, as well as the Tourism Marketing and Campaigns category for its efforts with Rediscover Rockingham campaigns.
Other noteworthy local selections include the Rotary Club of Palm Beach’s Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup, which was selected in the Festivals and Events category. The City supported this event with $175,000 of Iconic Event Sponsorship.
The Rockingham Visitor Centre (RVC) has also been selected as a finalist in the Visitor Information Services category. The City provided $100,000 to the RVC in 2021/2022 for the provision of visitor servicing in the Rockingham region.
Deputy Mayor, Hayley Edwards said the City was excited to be part of the 2022 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.
“Having won silver in the Excellence in Local Government Award for Tourism category in 2021, the City is thrilled to be featuring in the WA Tourism Awards for the second year running, this time in two categories,” Cr Edwards said.
“The active pursuit of tourism and economic development is a key aspiration in our Strategic Community Plan, and the ongoing delivery of the key actions in our Tourist Destination Strategy 2019 – 2024 have been integral to ensuring the City returns to the most prestigious tourism awards event in WA.
“These actions, and in particular our Rediscover Rockingham destination marketing campaigns, have showcased the stunning array of experiences that are on offer in Rockingham.
“Our City is known as the place where the coast comes to life, and to see multiple selections of organisations across Rockingham shows the high regard our tourism sector is held in,” she said.
The winners of the awards will be announced during a gala dinner at Crown Perth on 5 November.
