City of Melville Council has unveiled a $4.2 million streetscape upgrade on Ogilvie Road in Mount Pleasant.
The upgrade of the northern portion of Ogilvie Road includes new street trees and landscaped verges, improved public seating areas, widened footpaths and improved pedestrian accessibility.
“The upgrade of the street was shaped by the community, as the City engaged the public on two proposed concept designs and asked them to vote on their preferred design,” Council said in a statement.
To celebrate the upgrade and the completion of the works which began at the start of the year, the City held the Taste of Ogilvie event on Saturday. The event included food from local businesses, live music and family activities such as a scavenger hunt.
“I’m very pleased that the works to upgrade the streetscape along the northern portion of Ogilvie Road have now been completed,” said Mayor, Katy Mair.
“The City has a priority of deliver sustainable and well-planned infrastructure, public places and spaces and the upgrade of this street is a clear example of the City delivering on this.
“The community helped inform the upgrade and I hope they enjoy the improved walkability, vibrancy, shading and tree canopy coverage around local businesses and residences.
“Thank you to the community members who attended the Taste of Ogilvie event, and I encourage the wider community to check out the streetscape upgrade and continue to support the local business community in the area.”
