City of Canada Bay releases draft reconciliation plan

City of Canada Bay Council is seeking community feedback on its draft Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan.

“This is our first Reconciliation Action Plan, a guiding document that will help us make practical steps towards reconciliation within Council and our wider community,” said Mayor, Angelo Tsirekas.

“Reconciliation is an action as well as a goal, and we are in a unique position to lead our community towards reconciliation through education, programs, policies, and celebrations.”

In a statement, the Council said it was committed to recognising and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the heritage of its area, and in particular the Wangal people of the Eora nation.

Developed in consultation with First Nations peoples and organisations, the plan includes more than 50 actions Council will take to progress reconciliation; based on the themes of relationships, respect, opportunities, and governance.

The Council is inviting the community to view the plan and share their thoughts at Collaborate Canada Bay by Wednesday, 17 May.
