Charters Towers council welcomes $3m infrastructure boost

Charters Towers Regional Council has welcomed an allocation of $3,083,942 from the Community Benefits Fund for the Water for Growth initiative.

The funding announcement was made by Treasurer of Queensland and Minister for Energy, David Janetzki, during a visit to Charters Towers yesterday.

Mayor, Liz Schmidt said the funding represents an important opportunity for the region.

“This is a significant investment in the future of our community, and we thank the State Government for its support,” said Mayor Schmidt.

The Community Benefits Fund aims to support critical community infrastructure, including, without limitation, projects that facilitate housing supply and upgrades to essential utilities.

The Mayor said the investment will help Council progress the work needed to support a growing population and strengthen essential services.

The funds will allow Council to prioritise projects that enable housing growth, improve essential infrastructure and deliver long‑term benefits for residents across the region, she said.

“We look forward to working with the Queensland State Government to ensure the best outcomes for our community.”
