Councils across Australia are this week highlighting the efforts and achievements of women within their organisations as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.
Victoria’s Latrobe City Council Gender Champion and Inspiring Latrobe Women’s employee awards were presented yesterday.
The awards were developed as part of Council’s Gender Equality Action Plan, to celebrate and promote achievements of women in the organisation. International Women’s Day (IWD) is an important day for women all around the world, the Council said.
“This IWD theme is Embrace Equity, equity isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have a focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society’s DNA and is about everyone achieving equal outcomes,” said Latrobe City Mayor, Kellie O’Callaghan.
The Mayor joined guest speaker, Dr Niki Vincent, Public Sector Gender Commissioner (pictured, above), to announce and present the awards on Tuesday.
